Portrait Photography Questions

What kind of portrait sessions do you offer?

I offer a variety of different sessions for my clients such as lifestyle, maternity, family, seniors and headshots.

What exactly is a lifestyle session?

Lifestyle photography is a focus on creating artistic photos from real life situations. A lifestyle session with me may include meeting you and your child at the park to capture them playing and interacting with you and their environment. On a lifestyle shoot I will make some suggestions for ways to interact or situations to recreate, but the goal is to capture actual moments as they happen.

How long does a photo session last?

Most sessions last about 1-2 hours each depending on the type of session you scheduled.

Can we view and order our pictures online?

Yes, you can! Proofs are posted online in a password-protected gallery, and you may order prints, negatives and other products directly through the website.

Do you photograph special events and parties?

Yes, I do. I approach them documentary style. I am available for anniversary parties, bar/bat mitzvahs, wedding and baby showers, family reunions, and other special events, including fundraisers and corporate events. I have photographed over 250 special events since 2007.

Will you touch up my photos?

Yes, I do professional retouching on small blemishes, dark under eyes, etc. Other than small blemishes and smoothing of certain skin areas, it is your responsibility to tell me what you want and do not want removed, lessened or retouched.

Do I get the digital images of my photos?

Simply yes! You will get your final images in digital form with all of my packages.

Do we receive the raw, unedited files?

The raw, unedited files aren’t available for viewing or purchase. This is very much like asking a chef to give you the leftover ingredients used to prepare your dinner! The images selected for editing and final delivery reflect my very high standards and everything else isn’t archived.

What rights do I have to the digital prints?

You have the right to reprint images whenever you want. However you may not sell your images for profit or publish your images without the written consent of Dwayne White Photography. I do retain the copyright to the images and the right to use them for promotional purposes, competition, professional review, and so on.

Wedding Photography Questions

How would you define your photography style?

My photography consists of a combination of styles. To be more descriptive, a blend of styles including: Photojournalistic, Candid, Traditional, Contemporary, Emotional, Classic and Timeless.

What is your pricing?

I completely understand wanting to find pricing information without having to ask. My rates  aren’t listed for public viewing on my site for a variety of reasons. Seeing as that no two weddings are alike and that I have different pricing for Virginia weddings and weddings that require travel, the best way to view my pricing is by clicking on the CONTACT ME button and emailing me some details about your plans!

Do you work with a second photographer?

Most of the time I am a one-man wolf pack. However, if your wedding needs additional photographers, I know many great wedding photographers to invite. My second photographer would be there to cover the groom getting ready, a second angle during the ceremony, cocktail hour guests, and is also fantastic at reception coverage.

Do you have an assistant?

Yes, I most certainly do. My assistant is there to help and assist me with every wedding I photograph. The assistant however is not a second photographer; the assistant is there as a helping hand. My assistant does everything from holding equipment, to helping arrange your family members during family portraits.

Do you edit all of our photographs?

Yes, I do edit each image individually to make sure the color, saturation and lighting look as it should.

Do you shoot the rehearsal dinner?

Typically I do not shoot rehearsal dinners unless requested for an additional cost.

How many pictures will we receive?

The number of photographs taken depends on many factors as to, hours of coverage, the number of guests, and type of event. Every wedding package includes unlimited photographs. This means that from the time I get there to the time I leave, I am shooting. The only time I’m not shooting is during dinner service. My average for an eight hour day is around 800 images, but those numbers may vary.

How long does it take before we receive our products and photographs?

Online galleries are posted within 4 weeks of the wedding date. The digital files are available within 6 weeks of the wedding date. Wedding albums are ordered immediately upon your final approval and generally arrive 8 weeks after that.  Because our wedding albums are handmade, the amount of time to complete them can vary, but it’s so worth the wait!

What is the process for album design?

After you have viewed and picked your images, I personally design the album layout, to ensure that it accurately reflects the events of your special day. This can then be proofed through the online gallery (password protected). Once you approve the layout, you’ll sign off on the book and it will go to print. All of this process can be completed online simply and easily.

Do you offer engagement sessions?

Yes, I do! I love engagement sessions! They are available both individually and in some of our packages. I highly encourage engagement sessions with me prior to the wedding as they allow you to get some great photos for your save-the-dates and invites, and they help you get comfortable in front of the camera prior to the big day.

What is the online gallery mentioned in your collections?

The online gallery is a private section on my website that is password protected where all of your wedding photographs will be placed online for you, your family and friends to view. It will also have a secure shopping cart, which allows you, your family and friends to order prints of your special day. You will be responsive for providing the password to anyone who you would want to be able to view the images.

Do you offer bridal sessions?

Yes, bridal pictures are great for a lot of reasons! They are a set of photographs of just the bride taken before the wedding. They feature the bride in full wedding attire. They can be used in many ways. They can be incorporated into wedding and reception elements (e.g. Photo Guest Book, DVD Slideshow, Save the Dates, for display on reception tables, wedding programs and favors) and/or simply framed for display in a couple’s home.

Do you take posed family photos?

Absolutely, I love taking photos of the family. Weddings are events that bring two families together, and for many couples, weddings are some of the only times that so many relatives are together at once!

Can you hold a date for me?

I’m sorry, to be fair to everyone I can’t “hold” a date without a deposit and signed contract. I reserve dates on a first come first serve basis.

Can we pay you part of the amount after the wedding?

Full payment is due before the event.

If I need to cancel my wedding, is the retainer refundable?

The retainer fee is non-refundable. The retainer guarantees that I’ll hold the date exclusively for you and once you’ve signed the contract I do turn down all other inquires for that date.

Why is wedding photography so expensive?

It’s not expensive when you consider everything that’s involve in capturing moments of your special day. A lot of people tend to see wedding photography as just the 10 odd hours the photographer shoots on the day. But by my calculations, I spend over 50 hours on each wedding. Right from the first contact, the subsequent meetings, emails and phone calls, the hours start piling up. The engagement shoot will probably take 3-4 hours, editing its images another 8 hours The wedding day itself throws out over a 800+ images which could take anywhere between 20-30 hours to edit, images need to be backed up, uploaded, albums designed, modified, all the while continuing communications with you, the printers and the binders.

Weeks after your wedding, while other vendors have long since moved on to other projects, I’ll be the only ones still working on your wedding.

What happen if we go over the contracted amount of time?

I do have an overtime rate and it goes into effect only with your permission and approval that I continue coverage. I’ll bill you for those hours post-wedding.
